ABOUT US

The Flute Choir started its life in the 1980s as the Harborne Flute Choir, meeting at the Martineau Adult Education Centre in Harborne. Our founder conductor was Penny Collier, then Sandy Hay took over as Musical  Director in 2002.

Since September 2006 we have been independent and have changed our name to the Birmingham Flute Choir. Sandy was with us for seven inspiring years, then left in July 2009 to be Head of the Music Service in Leicester, when Sara Wilson started conducting the choir. Sara used to share conducting with both Sandy and Stephen and brought a different dimension to our rehearsals with her.

Stephen Clark took over as our Music Director from September 2009 and was an amazingly enthusiastic conductor, expecting a high standard from the choir - and generally getting it! Stephen left the group in July 2011, but Sandy Hay has happily taken up the baton as our conductor again.
